Hi All,
We routinely recommend users don't use DOORS Tables because they are far too messy, instead we advocate using embedded MS Word Tables, this allows in place editing and a certain amount of WYSIWYG.
However, we've recently hit an issue where users complain that the tables aren't displaying properly, investigation has revealed that unicode characters don't show up correctly, in particular the "LESS-THAN OR EQUAL TO" and "GREATER-THAN OR EQUAL TO" characters. They show up fine in Word, and when in-place editing, but then DOORS renders them as question marks like so:
AoA : 0 ? AoA ? 20°
The same font is used throughout (Tahoma).
Tables pasted in normally do sort of show up but have formatting issues, and they lose carriage returns.
Any ideas on how to get these characters to show correctly? We can't just use ">=" and "=<" as they are for an industry standard Release To Service document and it has to use correct notation. :)
We could paste the table as a picture but this wouldn't allow editing at a future date.
Any help or suggestions appreciated! We're using DOORS 8.3, not my choice I'm afraid! :)

Rob,
Here's how we fix similar issues in DOORS 8.2.
-
Double click to open the embedded word object
-
Select the problem symbol
-
Insert > Symbol
-
Select Font "Symbol" rather than "Tahoma"
-
Select the desired symbol
-
Insert
-
Close
-
File > Close and return to DOORS module
-
Save
Ken.
Excellent, worked a treat, thanks very much! :)
Makes sense now; using the Symbol font forces all the characters to be within the ASCII range.
Thanks once again, there's considerably less heat on me now!
